Sharon Spurlock is an abstract painter who explores her life experiences through art. The "House of Cards" series began with the idea of developing remembrances from childhood, using an adult viewpoint.
These large works on paper are bold and done with a contemporary perspective. This body of work was named "House of Cards", because she ended up with 52 images, just like a deck of playing cards.
Also the images when mixed together in different groupings create different vignettes of meaning. What evolved was a series of literal and visual metaphors that related to growing up. Memories and thought became translated into a library of iconic images, embellished with handwritten words.
The childhood sensibility became more worldly.
